Statistics show that nearly a third of the population in the developed world is overweight – and diseases related to obesity are being seen in an ever increasing number of people – from diabetes, to hypertension to heart attacks. This is not to mention the fact that being overweight is also likely to lead to less mental well being – as it can often lead to a poor self image, ultimately leading to low self esteem. And it is from this understanding of both the physical and psychological dangers of being overweight that many people are making various efforts towards weight loss. Consequently, weight loss is one of the most researched subjects on the Internet, and various resources have been developed to answer the queries of the people looking for information on this subject. Unfortunately for many people the information contained in these weight loss resources tends to be either too technical or too commercial that is, aimed at selling various products. Yet what many people researching on the subject of weight loss really want to understand is what their options in terms of weight loss are.
In spite of the numerous products (and sub-products, we might add) developed, there are three main options available to you in terms of weight loss, namely exercise, diet and the use of supplements.
Exercise is perhaps one of the most effective aids to weight loss – and could hold the key to many people looking for long term weight loss because simply put, our bodies were not meant for the sedentary lifestyles we are leading today. Yet for many people exercise feels like too much of a drag while for others, the time to go for exercise might not be there, even when they really want to go exercising. Hence the need for other aids to weight loss which are either not as engaging or as time consuming as exercise – though it is essential to point out clearly that these are not perfect substitutes for exercise. Which leads to us to the use of diet in weight loss efforts.
Simply put, the use of diet in weight loss rests on the premise that if we take in fewer calories than we consume, there is bound to be weight loss in the long term. And talking of the use of diet in weight loss, the issue of the use of organic and unprocessed foods as an aid to weight loss also comes in, given that these organic and unprocessed foods have been seen to be of much help in weight loss – at least compared to the chemically grown or processed foods.
Then there is the use of various supplements – which could be either synthetic or herbal. The use of these products in weight loss is based on the understanding that a number of chemicals – like Apple Cider Vinegar, Chromium Picolinate and Senna have been observed to help people in losing weight. All these supplements should be used with care, however, as they could have a number of obnoxious side effects. And just because a product is herbal does not necessarily mean that it is completely safe – it is important to read between the lines.
